ITS–The Ocean Cross of 1955 (ARSA’95) is a program for the golden Anniversary of Indonesia, aiming to promote maritime spirit among Indonesians. A total of 18 tall ships from ten countries and 112 yachts from 19 countries, including Australia, the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Thailand and England, took part in the contest. Australia deployed the biggest team of all with a total of 50 yachts.
They travelled a distance of 630 miles across the Java Sea from Benoa port in Bali and Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta. They left Benoa on August 7, 1995, and arrived in Tanjung Priok port between August 12 and 15, 1995. Several activities were held in both ports during the contest, including a contest for Miss Ocean and a marine and maritime exhibition.
The contest ended with a fleet review in Tanjung Priok, involving 30 warships from Indonesia and 40 warships from 16 other countries, and a 10-kilometer-long procession of 15,000 contest participants in Jakarta.
