D-6-SEGAR-ANAKITS–Lake Segara Anak nestles below the crest of Mount Rinjani, Indonesia’s third highest mountain, in lombok Island. One “Child” of the mountain, called Baru, which is still active, regularly discharges sulfur into the water, which is blamed for the killing of fish in the lake. The lake is situated at an altitude of 2,000 meters above sea level.
There are several guard posts placed on the mountain to guide hikers to the mountain’s top and the lake. Hikers may start from Batu Kog village.There, the guard post’s officers will willingly show them the map and inform them about the best way to climb the mountain. There, hiker can spend the night or go on to Senaru Village, 3,5 kilometres from Batu Kog towards the peak, where they can see the life of Sasak People, the indigenous of the island of Lombok.
The second post is situated at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level; the third post stands at an altitude of 2500 meters above sea level, where the temperature can drop to eight degrees Celcius. Hikers can rest or spend the night at each post. From the top of the mountain, it take days to walk to the Segara Anak crater lake.
