E-38-RUMAH-KAROITS–The Karonese people live in the Karo Highland inthe province of North Sumatra. This house is a place to live for multiple families, either 12, 8, or 4 families. There is no wall to separate the families. Each family has one kitchen area and a smallwindow on the wall. In the center of the house, there is a 50 centimeterlong piece of wood used as fairway.

The house is constructed 2 meters above the ground. The lower side is used to keep woods andanimals. The roof is made of palm fiber and reaches a height of 10 meters above the ground. On its four sides of the roof, there are buffalo’s horns. The house does not use nails and they are still traditionally constructed in two villages, LinggaVillage, and Barusjahe Village.
