E-83-1-CELEMPUNGITS–The Celempung is one of the various instruments used in the gamelan ensemble of the Javanese, Sundanese, and Balinese people.

It is a stringed instrument, each with 20 to 26 strings, arranged in ten to 13 pairs. Each pair of strings is tuned to the same pitch as those on a mandolin. The strings are streched over a coffin-shaped resonator, measuring one meter in length, which stands on four legs.

It is played by plucking the strings with the thumb. The melody it produces is pentatonic.
